Anime Expo 2025 has been a delight for Cyberpunk anime fans as the creators confirmed that Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 is officially in production.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is one of the most popular anime adaptations based on video games, as it not only won hearts with its thrilling story, beautiful animation, and authenticity but also brought a whole wave of players back to the game. Naturally, many have been waiting for a sequel for a long time, and after the tease from last month, the official announcement has finally arrived.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 Will Be a 10-Episode Series Based on ‘a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge’
At this year’s Anime Expo event, we saw the creators of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series host a behind-the-scenes panel, providing insights into the development of the series. The panel featured story writer and producer Bartosz Sztybor, voice actors for Lucy and David, Emi Lo and Zach Aguillar and a special guest appearance by the director of the first season, Hiroyuki Imaishi. The panel ended with the creators officially confirming that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is in production.
CD Projekt Red will collaborate with the animation studio, TRIGGER, to create Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The second season of Edgerunners will also feature a new director, Kai Ikarashi (episode director of Episode 6 in Season 1), who will make his directorial debut. Bartosz Sztybor will be the showrunner, story writer, and producer, and Kanno Ichigo will join him as the lead character designer, and Masahiko Otsuka will be the screenplay adapter.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 Teaser Was Too ‘Bloody’ for Public Viewing
Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 will be a 10-episode standalone series where the creators will “introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge.” It will be unlike anything they have done before. At this panel, fans only got to see the official logo and posters for Edgerunners 2. The teaser for the series was not played during the panel as it was “so bloody”, explained the host, Joey “The Anime Man” Bizinger. Instead, they held a closed-door viewing for the Cyberpunk Edgerunners season 2 trailer at Trigger’s panel later in the evening. No release window was revealed at the event or in the blog post, but we do know it’s coming to Netflix.
In other news, CD Projekt Red has delayed Cyberpunk 2077’s update 2.3. What are your thoughts on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 officially entering production?
