Fortnite Removes Two Movement Mechanics Just Months After Arriving

Fortnite has removed two movement mechanics from the title just months after their big debut, a decision that is already being questioned by the community.

One of the stand-out features introduced in Fortnite‘s Chapter Six last December was four movement features, which brought Ledge Jump, Roll Landing, Wall Kick, and Wall Scramble to the game—additions that were seen as so important by Epic Games that they even received specific quests in Chapter Six Season One.

Just six months later, however, two of those features have been removed from the game as Epic Games announced Wall Kick and Roll Landing have been removed in the current season, though they will “remain available in creator-made experiences.”

The removal of the feature is perplexing as, although not perfect, it significantly enhanced traversal in the battle royale modes and was a decent counter for those who were not strong as building, while those of us that prefer Zero Build benefitted from being able to climb huge structures without running up and down the stairs.

Epic Games hasn’t provided detailed reasoning for the removal but stated in an X post that they will “continue to evaluate new movement features for the future with learnings from these movement capabilities in mind.”

Whether the movement features return in the future remains to be seen, but I’m struggling to think of a reason to remove Roll Landing, a feature that was so well-suited to Fortnite that it feels almost alien without it. It’s not even the stamina-recovery side of it either, it’s just how it felt.

Wall Kick, on the other hand, is a feature I won’t miss. I never really utilized it and, when I did, it was often by accident and ended up propelling me in the opposite direction I wanted to go, often resulting in my elimination. Still, there were situations where it was beneficial.

A Reddit thread on the subject shows other players are just as perplexed as I am, so hopefully we’ll see an explanation from Epic Games on why the changes were made in the near future.

What do you think about the removal of Wall Kick and Roll Landing in Fortnite?
