Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s AAA Games Studio debuted a new trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, offering fans an early look at its expansive hack-and-slash combat on Nintendo Switch 2.

The trailer opens with Princess Zelda narrating the Imprisoning War, transporting players to Hyrule’s ancient past as she, King Rauru, and a host of allied heroes clash against waves of enemies in sweeping battlefield set pieces. Explosive footage highlights refined combo chains and dynamic environments, underscoring the game’s promise of large-scale warfare within the Legend of Zelda universe.
The new game emphasizes partner-based mechanics, showcasing two-character team-up attacks that clear crowds with synchronized special moves. A mysterious final shot teases the activation of a human-sized Construct deep within a shadowy cavern, accompanied by a haunting riff of Fi’s theme — hinting at intriguing story developments or playable surprises.
Slated for release this winter, Age of Imprisonment positions itself as a canonical prequel to Tears of the Kingdom, deepening the franchise’s lore with both familiar faces and never-before-seen threats.
