Superman (2025) Review :— The Man of Twigs

Because he broke very easy!

James Gunn’s Superman is the reboot DC desperately needed—light on cynicism, heavy on hope. It doesn't try to reinvent Superman through grit or realism. Instead, it brings the Last Son of Krypton back to his roots: compassion, idealism, and a firm belief that saving the world doesn’t have to mean losing yourself.

🦸‍♂️ What Works

David Corenswet's Superman is a refreshing revelation. He brings sincerity and grounded charm to a character often portrayed as either too saintly or too stoic. His Clark Kent is kind without being naive, awkward without being a caricature, and—when the cape comes out—genuinely inspiring.

Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane is razor-sharp and modern, balancing quick wit and emotional complexity. The chemistry between her and Corenswet gives the film a heartbeat, grounding the story even during its most fantastical stretches.

James Gunn’s Direction shines brightest in the smaller, character-driven moments. His trademark humor is here, but it’s more restrained than in Guardians of the Galaxy. Instead, the film finds strength in its sincerity—jokes never undercut emotional moments.

Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is a standout: less cartoonish supervillain and more a cold-blooded tech mogul. He's terrifying in his intellect and calm cruelty—a Lex for the post-truth, billionaire-worshipping world.

Krypto the Superdog surprisingly works. The furry sidekick earns genuine laughs and heartstring pulls, never feeling like a gimmick.

🧨 What Doesn't Work

The film occasionally suffers from tonal inconsistency. It bounces between earnest character drama and offbeat cosmic chaos, which can feel jarring. One moment we’re getting a touching lesson about humanity—then suddenly a Justice Gang subplot barrels in out of nowhere.

It’s also a little overstuffed. Between Lex, other meta-humans, government agents, and universe-building teases, the story sometimes loses focus. You can feel the DCU gears grinding in the background.

The action scenes are serviceable but rarely jaw-dropping. Unlike the visceral power of Man of Steel or the grandeur of The Batman, this film’s set pieces are solid but lack true cinematic spectacle.

💬 Final Thoughts

Superman (2025) isn’t the most explosive superhero film of the year—but it just might be the most needed. It reminds us that Superman doesn’t need to be edgy or conflicted to be compelling. Sometimes, the boldest thing a hero can do is choose kindness again and again.

This is a reboot with heart, humor, and plenty of potential. While it doesn’t stick every landing, it soars more often than it stumbles.

Verdict: 7.5/10

A charming and hopeful new beginning. Not perfect—but it captures the spirit of Superman with warmth, wit, and wide-open skies.
