Xbox Has Had a Branding Change For PC Gamers, And It’s Almost Pointless

The Xbox ecosystem goes far and wide, especially now that ‘everything’ is an Xbox, according to recent marketing campaigns. It was discovered this weekend that the Xbox brand has undergone a minor change focused on PC gaming that not many people noticed, but that’s probably because it’s barely worth noticing.

It was pointed out that ‘Xbox PC’ is now branded as ‘Xbox on PC’, which I’m sure means almost nothing to the average gamer.

Branding on Xbox

Xbox PC is now Xbox on PC, for some reason. The minor name convention alteration was pointed out recently by Tom Warren on social media, who previously noticed (earlier this year) that it had been dubbed ‘Xbox PC’.

looks like Microsoft has definitely changed from “Xbox PC” to the “Xbox on PC” branding

The new branding appeared in promotional posters for Grounded 2 and Age of Mythology: Retold. In an attempt to dominate marketing materials, it’s now stressed that games are available on Xbox Series XS, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud.

But if everything is an Xbox, surely just stressing that these games are on Xbox is enough? Ultimately, this change means very little, and it comes just a couple of months after the last naming convention was tweaked.

Fans on social media pointed out that perhaps ‘Xbox PC’ didn’t make much sense to an outsider. They also stressed that, further down the line, you could potentially need a split that highlights ‘Xbox Mobile’ and ‘Xbox Console’?

Are you going to lose any sleep over this minor rebrand?
