Jetpacks Return to Call of Duty, But There’s a Catch

Many Call of Duty fans have fond memories of the Jetpack Era. It was a time of enhanced movement abilities, incredible set pieces, and increased verticality. For years, we’ve been locked to the floor by boots-on-the-ground titles – but that might change with this year’s Call of Duty title.

For now, those who have a hunger for jetpack usage in Call of Duty can satiate their appetite… Kind of. The latest season of Call of Duty Mobile is set to arrive tomorrow, and it’ll bring with it a new jetpack-themed mode.

That’s the catch.

Call of Duty Mobile is a melting pot that features elements from almost every major Call of Duty title ever released. It’s a cacophony of characters, maps, modes, and weapons, and it’s technically the best-selling Call of Duty game ever made.

It helps that it’s a free mobile game, of course.

The latest season to hit COD Mobile is called Infinity Realm, and it features a new map that facilitates the use of jetpacks, which have become an alarmingly rare sight in the Call of Duty space these days. Once upon a time, they dominated the multiplayer ecosystem of Call of Duty, but I guess things have changed.

If you want to free your boots from the ground, you’ll want to give COD Mobile a try when Infinity Realm is released tomorrow, April 23.

The new map, which accommodates the Chase mode, will require players to traverse a wider environment while racing to a finish line somewhere in the distance. To navigate obstacles along hte way, players will need to use nimble fingers and a jetpack.

The idea of boosted verticality has also been introduced to COD Mobile’s battle royale platform, with Activision introducing the Tactical Bouncer class. This class can deploy jump pads wherever they like, allowing players to catapult themselves into the air.

Yes, exactly like Fortnite.

This year, the next Call of Duty title (Black Ops 7?) should reintroduce jetpack-based combat, or at least heightened verticality. If you don’t want to wait for that, consider giving COD Mobile a try.
