For the first time in over 30 years, a new Ecco the Dolphin game is on its way.

As part of an interview celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Xbox, series creator Ed Annunziata spoke about the franchise and what its future could hold. That’s where he let the news slip.
No only is Ecco the Dolphin getting a brand new game, but the first two titles from the early 1990s are being remastered.
According to Annunziata, the new game will feature “contemporary play and GPU sensibilities”. More information on both the remasters and the new game will come in the future via the game’s website. For now—as of publishing, at least—there is a countdown on the game’s website for 8,529 hours. That converts to 355 days and nine hours.
The original Ecco the Dolphin released in December 1992 for the Sega Genesis. That was followed up in 1994 with Ecco: The Tides of Time for the Sega Genesis, Game Gear, and CD in 1994. Other games from the franchise include kid-focused Ecco Jr. and Ecco Jr. and the Great Ocean Treasure Hunt as well as Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future. Another game, Ecco II: Sentinels of the Universe was planned for the Sega Dreamcast but was ultimately cancelled when Sega discontinued the console.
What do you think of Ecco the Dolphin making a comeback with a new game and remasters of the original games?
