Review: “You” Season 5 (Netflix)

Rating: 4/5

“You” Season 5 delivers a sharp, suspenseful, and surprisingly emotional final chapter for Joe Goldberg. The show leans heavily into its psychological thriller roots while giving long-time fans the payoff they’ve been waiting for — a deeper look into Joe’s twisted mind without holding back.

The writing this season feels more confident than ever, blending smart social commentary with dark humor and gripping tension. Penn Badgley once again carries the series effortlessly, giving a performance that’s both chilling and strangely sympathetic. Supporting characters are stronger too, with fewer throwaway side plots and more meaningful confrontations with Joe’s past.

The pacing, while generally solid, drags slightly in the middle episodes. A few twists feel a little predictable if you’ve followed the show’s patterns over the years, but the finale sticks the landing in a way that’s both satisfying and haunting.

Season 5 doesn’t reinvent You, but it refines it — and gives Joe the ending he deserves (depending on how you define “deserve”).

Verdict:

A stylish, gripping conclusion that reminds you why You became a cultural phenomenon — even if the mirror it holds up is sometimes uncomfortably real.
